Samba interactive tv setup2/21/2023 ![]() ![]() I bought the TV based on its hardware and capabilities, not even realizing it ran on Android TV till I opened it. And there's an app called Air-Share, which allows you to upload pics/videos/music to the TV's local storage, to be viewed as channels. You can also use the CumulusTV app to collate pretty much any stream or site into the "live streaming" channels (which I haven't tried yet). Quality isn't always tops, but many channels or individual shows are at least HD. Having it only a couple weeks so far, I've stumbled upon and watched all kinds of stuff I wouldn't have otherwise, from the cheesetastic 'The Apple' on the RiffTrax channel (There's also an MST3K channel) to the 2 year old movie I watched last night, 'Approaching the Unknown', with Mark Strong on a solo mission to Mars. What makes it even better is that live streaming is specialized, with much more unique content than conventional channels. While watching everything on demand is great, I've missed the fun of channel surfing when I don't feel like watching something particular. I "cut the cord" maybe about 7 years ago, at this point. I've found the feature really is pretty great. I believe the 900 should have it, since the 930 is just a processor bump and lighting alternative. ![]() I was also confused in thinking it was discovering *any* app which provided live streaming (like NBC's app), but it turns out that apps have to have defined hooks into Live Channels/Streaming Channels (like Pluto TV) and that there are only a handful (which you can search within the app). There, it automatically adds new sources as you install them and you manage each source individually, as opposed to the initial channel scan when you first set it up. What tripped me up is that once it's installed and you set it up with channels initially, it disappears from the Apps section and is integrated into the main Settings->Channels->Channel Setup menu. It's technically an app, but doesn't install or become available until you install any other app which includes live streaming channels, like Pluto TV, Bloomburg, so on. I think it's "Streaming Channels" or something. ![]() Sony TVs use this, but under a different name for some reason. There actually is a Google made Android TV app called "Live Channels", which natively manages live streaming channels as if they were antenna/cable channels and lists them in the same program guide. Not to bump, go ahead and let it sink, but just in case someone else has a similar derp moment and finds this. I wonder if the option was removed or something. I did just update to the most recent firmware, yesterday. In Settings->Channels, I see "Antenna/Cable" and each of the live streaming sources I originally added (Pluto, Weather Network, etc.) in a list, but there are no options to add sources or remove the ones that are in there. I installed a bunch more apps which have live channels in them today, went to add them to the Program Guide, and can't find the menu I was in no matter where I look. I added Pluto and a few others and now have an actual channel guide for live streaming channels. It prompted me to add sources and I was shocked to see a number of the apps I'd installed, along with counts of potential channels. After installing Pluto and a few other services which include live streaming channels, I hit the Program Guide button to see what it was about. In fact, I hadn't thought about the live streaming option until I ran across things like Pluto TV in the Google store. I'd thought about an external source, like an Apple TV 4K, but the native apps on the TV are fine for now (especially with the Dolby Vision debacle). So, I got a Sony X930E (which runs Android TV) about a month or so ago, for streaming, games, and disc. I've looked everywhere and can't find anything about this other than a post on another forum asking what the menu option is that I mention below. ![]()
